Try your hand at Scything
Try your hand at Scything – come and help us ‘mow’ the Goulburn Green wildflower strip in the traditional way on Saturday 31 August, 10.00 – 12.30.
Many hands etc… We need a small team to help us with the seasonal cut of the wildflower strip that has so brightened our village green this spring and summer – and fed the all-important pollinators.
Scything is by far the best way to cut wildflowers, leaving no shreds to inadvertently enrich the soil. It’s hugely satisfying too, and surprisingly easy once you have established a good rhythm. If you are growing a wildflower meadow, have grassland near water or simply want to sustainably manage an area of interest, this the perfect maintenance tool.
Some of those who attended last year’s scything workshop and learnt under Mary Ellis will be bringing their scythes and demonstrating the technique on Goulburn Green, Betchworth on Saturday 31 August from 10.00. No need to book – just turn up! Any questions - email jb@pottersfarm.net
Come and try your hand, enjoy some refreshments and the banter! And if you don’t feel up to the mowing, then your help with raking will be hugely appreciated. There may be cake…
